The BC Chapter is excited to announce "Assessing the Impact, Envisioning the Future," the 2024 Pacific Northwest (PNW) Section of the Society for Range Management fall tour. Scheduled to take place in Merritt, BC, from October 1st to 3rd, 2024, this event promises a rich program focused on grassland management and innovative ranching practices.

Accommodations:

A room block has been reserved at the Comfort Inn until August 25th, 2024. Attendees are encouraged to book their stay by calling the hotel directly at 250-315-0237 and requesting the Society for Range Management room block. Early booking is recommended to secure accommodations.

What to Expect:

The tour will feature a variety of engaging topics and activities:

October 1

 PNW Board Meeting: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Comfort Inn and Suites Board Room.

Evening Social: From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the Empty Keg Brewhouse will host an evening social with entertainment by Rob Dinwoodie and Tim Ross. The ticket price includes dinner, dessert, and one drink. A minimum of 30 tickets must be sold for the event to proceed, so early purchase is advised.

October 2

Field Tour: Running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., this comprehensive tour will cover:Stop 1: Lundbom, Laurie Guichon Memorial Grassland site. This stop includes a presentation on the site’s history and significance, followed by a grassland health assessment by the Grasslands Conservation Council.

Stop 2: Beaver Ranch, Hamilton. A local rancher will discuss the history of the Guichon (now Beaver) Ranch, current ranching practices, and innovations in the field.

Stop 3: Stump Lake. Here, a local rancher will present on native grassland management amidst various land uses and disturbances such as industry and fire.

Banquet Dinner and Awards Ceremony: Held at Game On Sports Bar and Grill, this event includes dinner and an awards ceremony. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated upon request. A silent auction will also take place—anyone wishing to donate items should contact the BC Chapter at [email protected].

October 3

Annual General Meeting: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Presentations and Poster Sessions: From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Comfort Inn and Suites Board Room. Those interested in presenting should reach out to the BC Chapter at [email protected].

Attendees should come prepared for an outdoor field tour on October 2nd with appropriate attire and footwear. This event is a fantastic opportunity to learn from experts, explore cutting-edge ranching practices, and connect with fellow professionals in the field.
