Andrew has farmed mixed vegetables in Alberta and British Columbia for over 13 years. He has other work experience in the academic and not-for-profit sectors overseeing sustainable agriculture teaching and research programs at UBC Farm, advocating for better agriculture policy to support family farms at the federal level and in curriculum development and implementation for various organizations.
Andrew completed a BA in international development and geography at Queen’s University and an M.A. in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation at Simon Fraser University. All these experiences feed his commitment to advance systems-level solutions to the climate change with farmers. Andrew lives near Duncan, B.C. with his partner and two daughters.
Farmers for Climate Solutions (FCS) advocacy has directly resulted in an infusion of $1.5 billion to the agriculture sector since 2021 to support farmers and ranchers in mitigating and adapting to climate change while maintaining profitability and improving soil health. How did this happen? Andrew’s presentation at the CFGA conference will cover lessons learned in how FCS’ approach of bringing farmers and ranchers, scientists and policy makers together has led to unprecedented new program announcements and financial support for the agriculture sector that centre producers as part of the solution to climate change.
