Join the M.D. of Wainwright in partnership with the CFGA, FCS, AAFC and the Alberta Beef Producers for a jam-packed day exploring topics such as forage establishment, effective herbicide management strategies, riparian grazing and managing grazing for drought conditions.

This is event is offered at a cost of $10/participant for M.D. of Wainwright ratepayers, and open publicly to all at a cost of $20/participant. This includes all refreshments (coffee, tea, water, snacks in the morning and afternoon) as well as a catered lunch. Please indicate if you have any dietary restrictions when registering.

Registration is required and will close at 12:00pm on February 21. Register by emailing Shelby at [email protected] or by calling the M.D. of Wainwright office at 780-842-4454.

Presented by Neil Pugh (DLF): A discussion of first hand experience in establishing forages to reach full potential and expression of key species traits.
10:30am – 10:45am: Break
10:45am - 11:00am: Know Your Weeds
Presented by Shelby Oracheski (M.D. of Wainwright)
11:00am – 12:00am: Herbicide Management for Pastures
Presented by Thane Beagle (Corteva): This presentation will focus on how the herbicides available from Corteva Agriscience can be an integral part of your pasture management plan.
12:00pm – 1:00pm: Lunch prepared by Vera’s Catering
1:00am - 1:45pm: Tips and Tricks for Grazing in the Riparian Area
Presented by Kerri O’Shaughnessy (Cows and Fish): Riparian areas are the green zones of water loving vegetation next to streams, rivers, lakes and wetlands. The interface with water creates unique soils and plant communities which also creates unique opportunities if managed carefully. This presentation will highlight some of the riparian grazing principles and strategies for achieving healthy landscapes for the benefit of operations and ecosystems.
1:45pm - 2:15pm: Grazing Resources and Mentorship
Presented by Sonja Shank (CFGA): Discussion and demonstration of the online learning platform for grazing and the opportunities available.

2:30pm - 3:45pm: Drought Management of Pastures
Presented by Grant Lastiwka (Union Forage): An in depth discussion focusing on the crucial role pasture management plays when drought conditions are faced. Pastures are the backbone of a successful beef operation, and their maintenance is key to success. Being prepared to make difficult decisions and having strategies in place aid in resiliency.
