The CFGA is pleased to support PCAP’s Native Prairie Speaker Series. The May 15 webinar is titled SK Conservation Data Centre (SKCDC) Data Collection, Sharing & Uses. Speakers include Andrea Benville, data manager; Beryl Wait, invasive species coordinator; and Erin Swerdfeger, zoologist, all from the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre in the Fish and Wildlife Branch, Ministry of Environment, Government of Saskatchewan. Caitlin Mroz-Sailer, stewardship coordinator with Prairie Conservation Action Plan will host the event.
With so many diverse plants, animals and lichen species in Saskatchewan, keeping track of them can be a big job. That’s where the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre (SKCDC) comes in! The SKCDC is responsible for collecting information on species and managing a species database, with a focus on documenting conservation status and mapping locations of rare and endangered species. Information housed in the database is compiled from a variety of sources including government and non-government organizations, industry, academia, museums and citizen science websites such as iNaturalist.
Join this presentation to learn more about the SKCDC, including information on where they get their data, what they do with it and how people can contribute! They will also go over some of the ways their data can be accessed, such as through NatureServe Explorer, iMapInvasives and the Government of Saskatchewan’s HABISask web mapping application.
This presentation is free. Watch from anywhere. Everyone welcome.
