The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association (CFGA) is proud to be a presenting sponsor of the Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan (SK PCAP) Native Prairie Speaker Series.

Every month, SK PCAP hosts a Native Prairie Speaker Series Webinar about species at risk or prairie conservation.

During the next speaker series webinar, Jessie Bainbridge, MSc candidate with the University of Regina’s department of biology will speak about habitat quality and the genetic population structure of the Ord’s kangaroo rat on Thursday, Jan. 30, beginning at 12 p.m. CT. About this webinar The Ord’s kangaroo rat is an endangered species in Canada, with habitat loss identified as the primary threat. Jessie’s research aims to better understand habitat characteristics that influence Ord’s kangaroo rats at a local and landscape scale. Specifically, Jessie is investigating how Ord’s kangaroo rat reproductive success and body condition vary with local sand dune characteristics.

Additionally, she is examining the genetic population structure of kangaroo rats across their Canadian range and identifying landscape features that may serve as barriers to dispersal and gene flow. These research objectives are intended to help inform ongoing and future habitat remediation and conservation strategies for the species.
