The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association is pleased to have Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) as an annual partner. This week’s blog shares some information about this great organization.

DUC is the leading conservation organization dedicated to conserving, restoring and managing wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl, wildlife and people. For over 86 years, DUC has worked alongside farmers, ranchers and other landowners to implement sustainable land management practices that benefit both wildlife and agriculture. With a deep commitment to protecting the environment and supporting agricultural livelihoods, DUC has become a trusted partner in promoting healthy, productive landscapes across Canada.

Programs with a purpose

DUC offers a range of programs and services designed to support beef and forage producers. DUC’s conservation efforts focus on protecting and enhancing wetlands and grasslands, which are critical to supporting biodiversity, water quality and soil health.

DUC provides technical expertise and financial incentives for producers interested in integrating sustainable practices, such as restoring wetlands, managing marginal lands, planting forage and pollinator habitat and implementing rotational grazing systems. By partnering with DUC, producers can enhance their land’s productivity, improve resilience to extreme weather events and contribute to broader environmental goals like carbon sequestration and biodiversity outcomes.

One of DUC’s key programs is the Forage Program, which provides financial support to producers for establishing and maintaining perennial forage on previously cultivated land. This initiative helps enhance soil health, reduce erosion and support livestock while contributing to broader conservation objectives.
